Product Care
Our products are made in our small family woodshop in Maize, Kansas. We source our hardware from U.S. shops wherever possible as well.
We source much of our rare woods, such as old growth redwood burl, claro walnut burl, and buckeye burl from mills on the U.S. pacific coast. Although these woods are extremely rare, they are responsibly sourced. The old growth redwood for example, would likely have been harvested over 200 years ago during the gold rush. At that time, mills discarded burled wood because it was of no value in building cabins or stores. These discarded burls are now reclaimed by a small number of mills and offered up for sale. All of the exotic wood burls used in our shop are individually sourced by us. One piece at a time. This is how we can offer some of the most unique wood products available.
Yes! Burled wood naturally has many inconsistancies in wood grain direction and density. Those small holes are what creates the unique birdseye effect in much of our pieces. The grain direction changes is what gives wood burl the chattoiance and wavy features. That is exactly what makes it so beautiful. In our shop, we think tight, straight grained wood with even color is boring. That's not what gets us excited...
